Afaik, you do need to be a State Farm customer to apply for either USB State Farm card. For most people, I don't think that would be much of a loss, though. The Good Neighbor card is just your typical no-rewards platinum, and you can get basically the same thing at any number of issuers. With the Premier card, on the other hand, the $4k cap on the 3% insurance payments category blunts its one use case (large monthly insurance premiums) pretty badly. Compared to even just a 1.5% general rewards card, you'd only be looking at an extra $5/mo if you hit the $4k cap exactly.

How far along in the application process do you get that screen? At the beginning of the app, they ask if you want to log in to your State Farm or Continue as a Guest. I assume you continued as a guest?

Yes, because if you login you are a State Farm customer which I am not.

You can apply as a guest if you do not want to login. State Farm will then verify if you are a customer.

if you are not, you cannot apply.

I have not been able to find if you are able to apply without being a State Farm customer

I am leaving this information here so others can hopefully either confirm or deny since I was not able to find anything about this prior to trying to apply.

I've never been a State Farm customer and I was able to apply last year with no issues. I wonder if this is something new.

Well, it has a $150 intro bonus and 3% CB on insurance spend up to $4k spend per year (5% first year if you apply through an agent). I am assumingthis is any insurance spend, doesn't have to be State Farm?? But, yeah, otherwise pretty lackluster.

Correct. I run my USAA insurance bills for 3% CB.
