Is this just bad wording or are they really using book value and not market value at transfer? That would negate most of the gains in the portfolio. Has anyone confirmed? The rest of the T&C seems to indicate market value

I specifically asked the same question the TD rep, if they are going to use the book value as reported by the source brokerage (which maybe incorrect in case of multiple accounts) or the FMV at the time of the transfer. He said it is the book value.
Then I said I have a security, which a purchased a long-time ago for $1 and it is trading now for $100. Is TD going to use $1 or $100 dollars for the value at the time of the transfer. Then he changed his mind and said that it is actually the transferred amount. So, I am sorry that I can't asnwer your question for sure, but even the TD reps can't.
In my case the difference between book and market value will be about 40%, so I really need to know.

Both should work. If you are opening new accounts online, there is an option to transfer an existing account from another brokerage. You can also do it over the phone or bring the form to a TD DI branch.

Yes the wording says book value, but I highly doubt they are going to use the actual book value of the security. I'm 99% certain they mean the transferred value. I think what they are trying to say is that the value at the time of transfer is used to calculate the award amount, not the market value when the award is paid (next May or whenever).

You shouldn't need any strategy. You could register the offer now and transfer $1 from Wealthsimple right away to activate the 2% bonus and transfer the remaining assets later.

I agree that this makes most sense, because TD also stated that interest, dividents and market fluctuations after Oct 31, 2024 until April 30, 2025 don't matter. If you transfer 1 mln by Oct 31, 2024 and it's value is 500k or 2 mln on April 30 it doesn't matter. You will still get 20,000 bonus paid.

I tried opening a new account first then calling as existing customer and see if I could get the offer, even said I had assets from WealthSimple and I was turned down.

Then I tried to see if their new accounts to see if they will be motivated to get my business and they said regardless of how much assets you are going to transfer, if you are not targeted by this promotion then you will not get the transfer bonus.

Did the rep you spoke to put through a request to their promotions team to see if they can make an exception? Or just straight up tell you you’re not eligible.

When I tried as an existing customer then they put me on hold for a while and talked to the promotion department and then said I don't qualify.

When I tried calling in as a new customer, the rep just straight up tell me that I wasn't eligible unless I received a direct email from them as this is a targeted promotion.

Not quite sure how they would be targeting those who haven't been a TD customer before, except if they send an invite to new customers after they create an account, but they just be going after previous customers who transferred and closed accounts.

You would have to call in and get special approval on a case-by-case basis. Seems some agents are more knowledgeable about this promo than others.

Was a previous long time TDDI customer that transferred to WS for the IPhone promo. I have other assets in other FI I can transfer in. Who do I call to get this promo? I should call Webbroker and not the EasyWeb correct?

Very confusing indeed what I read on the board. The process i went through today was very straight forward. So simple that I now doubt if it was what I think it was.

1. I am with TD DI have 4 accounts with them, all funded.
I did not receive EMails or phone calls, learned about the offer from chat sites first.
I called today spoke with TD DI rep (dialed trading desk option). I told her I want to be in this promotion and plan to bring in $250-500k from another financial institution. She clearly knew what I was talking about. She sent me link to fill the form. All the same form. This link:
Your text to link here...
She said in the form to write specific account into which I want to move the funds.
So I did.

2. I received reply EMail instantly with the following text:
Thank you for registering.
A few things for you to do to before receiving your reward:
Transfer $1 or more in investable assets or cash from another Canadian financial institution(s) ("Qualifying Assets") or third-party account to an eligible TD Direct Investing or TD Easy TradeTM Account(s) by October 31, 2024.
Maintain the Qualifying Assets in the TD Direct Investing or TD Easy Trade Account(s) until April 30, 2025.
Keep the account open, funded and in good standing1 with TD Direct Investing or TD Easy Trade until May 30, 2025, to receive your reward!
Your reward will be deposited directly into your account by May 30, 2025.

I asked her will I get some formal confirmation that I was accepted for the reward.
She replied that this EMail is my confirmation, I should keep it.

3. I asked about money transfer. I told her that the funds are in Credit Union and for me the easiest would be just to deposit check from them.
She replied that yes, I can do it by check. In the check issued by my Credit Union in the memo field they should enter TD DI account no.
I should take this check to TD Bank and request them to deposit it to TD DI directly to the account written on check.
She said it would take seven days for the funds to go through.
And that was it.

And now reading about all the hurdles people going through I do not know what to think.
Can someone who went through the process and got accepted for the offer comment on the above please?

You are missing the one important part of being eligible for the Offer:

"Receive an Offer specific communication from TD Direct Investing or TD Canada Trust inviting them to participate in the Offer."

As far as I know, anyone can fill out the registration form and receive that email. That does not mean they will be eligible. Generally, most people have been told by the phone reps that there must be an invite to be eligible. The reps can check email or phone logs to see if you are eligible. The knowledge of the reps can vary on this and on parts of the terms and conditions of the offer itself. If you call in again and speak with a different rep, you may get an entirely different answer than the one you originally received. If you push, the reps can escalate this to the promotions team to decide on a one-to-one basis to see if you are eligible. Most likely you would have had to transfer a significant amount to Wealthsimple in the last year to be eligible

How to be find out with certainty? I told the rep that i did not receive 'Offer specific communication' but want to get the offer.
She sent me email with link.

The reply email says with no uncertainty: 'Your reward will be deposited directly into your account by May 30, 2025'.

You already had an answer from one of the TD REP saying you only qualify if you receive an invitation.
However, you're trying to believe another REP saying you're qualify by simply register the form...
https://forums.redflagdeals.com/td-dire ... #p39077490

You better get in writing / invitation email from TDDI that you're qualify for this offer to be sure...

My understanding is that if you did not received a invite directly from TDDI, you need email confirmation that you have been approved for the offer by the promotions team. A regular TDDI rep cannot qualify you for the offer without first going through this team.

If you did not receive an invite and you do not have confirmation from the TDDI rep that they received approval through this team, you are probably not actually registered for the offer.

This is correct. You need to be register per with the promotions team and receive and invitation from them. Registering at the link that everyone keeps referring to does not make you eligible.

Yes. It must come from the promotions team.

I called in and was approved by the rep. But hearing what others were saying here, I pushed for an email confirmation which they wouldn’t give. However he said phone calls were recorded so I shouldn’t worry. More importantly, he actually checked with the promotions team and confirmed my approval.

All that said, I checked my last month’s phone log and saw a bunch of missed calls from TD. No messages left but I assume they were offer calls. Then late last week I receive the promo offer in a physical letter in the mail.

So the main takeaway is to get promotions to confirm your eligibility.

Karma is real.

Thank you everybody who replied. It looks I will have to get back to TD DI and request confirmation with Promotions Team.

One detail: the Email I received was from
TD.DICampaignFulfilment@td.com.
Is it the same as Promotion team?

Pretty sure you are good. The campaign team is how the TD rep I spoke to referred to to the team responsible for approving people. So it looks like your email came from that team.
